We talk a lot about the care we provide to clients and families. And rightly so. But none of it would happen without the people who walk through those front doors every morning, rain or shine, and do the work.
This one's for them.
At Be Independent, we’ve been on a mission since 2010 to be Ireland’s most trusted home care provider. We’ve grown from a small team in Dublin to a nurse-led service covering multiple CHO areas, and along the way we’ve been certified as a Great Place to Work, shortlisted at the Irish Healthcare Centre Awards, and had one of our own carers named a top 3 finalist for Carer of the Year at the Home and Community Care Ireland Awards. We’re proud of all that. But the reason any of it happened is the care team.
Earlier this year, we held a special recognition event for carers who have been with us for ten years or more. Ten years in home care is a long time. It’s early mornings, late evenings, and everything in between. It’s building real relationships with clients and their families, often becoming part of the family yourself. The carers we celebrated that day have done that, quietly and consistently, for over a decade.
We presented each person individually, shared something personal about their contribution, and gave them a moment to feel genuinely appreciated. Because they are.
We also run a Carer of the Month programme across our regions, which gives local managers the chance to recognise someone who has gone above and beyond that month. It’s a small thing, but the feedback tells us it matters.
When we asked our care team what makes Be Independent a great place to work, here’s what some of them said:
“They always accommodate my schedule according to my college timetable, which gives me the chance to study and work.”
“The team is genuinely friendly and always willing to help each other out.”
“Things have evolved a lot since I started working here, and I feel heard by the girls in the office.”
“There’s a real sense of teamwork, support, and respect in everything we do.”
These aren’t lines from a brochure. They’re from an anonymous survey our carers filled in last November, and over 200 of them took the time to respond. That says something on its own.
We invest in our carers because it’s the right thing to do, and because it directly improves the care our clients receive. We fund QQI Level 5 modules, run training through Grow, Chevron, The Open College and Positive to Work SkillNet, sponsor international carers for work visas, and every single one of our Care Supervisors started out as a Home Care Assistant with us. They were supported to grow, and they did.
We’re not a perfect company. No one is. But we are a company that shows up for our carers the same way they show up for our clients, and we plan to keep doing that.
To every member of our care team: thank you. You are the reason families trust us.
