Most of our work takes place in the homes and communities of the people we support, behind a desk coordinating care, or on the phone ensuring that clients, families, and carers have the support they need. Every day, our teams work tirelessly to help others remain independent, safe, and comfortable in their own homes.
At Be Independent Home Care, we encourage the people we support to be determined, resilient, and confident in their abilities. We celebrate every achievement, no matter how big or small, and promote independence at every opportunity. These values are at the heart of everything we do.
On September 5th, 2026, a group of staff from across our office teams decided to put those same values to the test by taking part in the Hell & Back Challenge at Killruddery House in Bray.
Over the course of a demanding 7km (Turns out it was 9km!) route filled with obstacles, steep climbs, mud, water, and countless challenges, our team pushed themselves well beyond their comfort zones. It was physically demanding, exhausting at times, and certainly messy, but it was also incredibly rewarding.
Much like the people we support every day, participants drew on determination, resilience, perseverance, and teamwork to keep moving forward and overcome obstacles. Completing the course provided a powerful reminder of the strength shown by so many of our clients and their families every day as they navigate challenges in their own lives.
You may be wondering what a muddy obstacle course has to do with home care.
For us, the connection is simple. Alongside taking part in the challenge, we raised funds for the Alzheimer Society of Ireland, an organisation whose work has touched the lives of many of the people we support, as well as many of our carers and colleagues. The Alzheimer Society of Ireland provides invaluable services, guidance, advocacy, and support to individuals living with dementia and to the families who care for them.
Throughout August and September, our teams undertook a range of fundraising activities in support of this incredible cause. Thanks to the generosity of colleagues, family members, friends, and supporters, we were able to raise vital funds that will help the Alzheimer Society of Ireland continue its important work within communities across the country.
The knowledge, support, and services they provide help us better understand the needs of those we care for and enable us to deliver the best possible support to clients who wish to remain in the comfort, familiarity, and security of their own homes.
For one memorable Saturday, our staff swapped desks, phones, and schedules for mud, water, obstacles, and aching muscles. Together, they encouraged one another, pushed beyond what they thought possible, and proudly crossed the finish line. Not simply for the challenge itself, but for the people and cause that inspire us every day.
As the mud washed off and tired muscles recovered, what remained was a tremendous sense of achievement and pride. Every step taken, every obstacle overcome, and every euro raised contributed to something far greater than the challenge itself.
Why This Cause Matters
The Alzheimer Society of Ireland plays a vital role in supporting people living with dementia and the families who care for them. Their services include dementia-specific home care, daycare and daycare-at-home services, dementia advisers, family carer training, social clubs, support groups, advocacy services, and a national helpline.
These supports help people living with dementia maintain their independence, remain connected to their communities, and continue living well in their own homes for as long as possible.
These services make a real and lasting difference to the lives of people living with dementia, helping them to remain safe, connected, and supported while also providing invaluable guidance and reassurance to family members, navigating what can often be a challenging journey.

Thank You
Completing the Hell & Back Challenge was an achievement we are incredibly proud of, but the real accomplishment lies in the support we have been able to provide to such a worthy cause. Together, we have helped raise awareness of dementia, recognised the incredible work of the Alzheimer Society of Ireland, and contributed towards services that support thousands of individuals and families across the country.
As the mud washed off and the aches faded away, what remained was an overwhelming sense of pride, teamwork, and purpose. Every step taken, every obstacle overcome, and every euro raised was done in support of people living with dementia and those who care for them.
We would like to sincerely thank everyone who donated, supported, encouraged, and cheered us on throughout our fundraising journey. We raised an impressive €5,500!
Whether you contributed to our fundraising efforts, sponsored a participant, attended an event, or simply offered words of encouragement, your generosity and kindness helped make this initiative a tremendous success.
