A reminder that this week is National Carers Week (10th – 16th June). With 270,000 adults over the age of 15 providing care in the home, this is a great opportunity to promote the contribution of Family Carers. Family carers provide high levels of care at home and have to juggle demands on their time and energy often leaving no time for themselves which can lead to stress and burn out. At Be Independent Home Care we have been delighted to be able to provide complimentary Wellness Seminars to the Carers Association and so assist those that provide this invaluable care in the home to remain healthy and well. The Health & Wellness presentation covers a variety of Wellness topics such as Exercise, Diet and Stress Management.
The Carers Association has been organising events for Carers Week for many years and promises that this year will be another week full of Recreational Events, Information Days, Training Courses, Health Checks and overall fun. Now entering its 7th year, National Carers Week 2013 promises to be a highlight of the year for many of the organisations working with and supporting Family Carers who provide home care in Ireland. The objectives are to raise awareness of Family Carers in our community, to deliver events for Family Carers throughout the country and to engage with Family Carers not yet availing of carer support services.

Also to coincide with National Carers Week, CASALA, the applied research and community development centre in Dundalk, is running a campaign to raise awareness of the role of carers in society. The ‘Hello Carers’ campaign will run during national carers week. Hello Carers seeks to raise community awareness of the role of carers and the significant contribution they make to society. It aims to encourage people with caring responsibilities to access assistance and support, including the many carers who do not identify themselves as such. So if you regularly provide care to someone, please go on-line during national carers week at discover4carers.eu and get involved in the Hello Carers campaign. All you need do is make a short comment on your experience as a carer and help us shine a spotlight on carers.
