Be Independent Homecare Early Dementia & Alzheimer Care

Dementia is the progressive deterioration in cognitive function. Dementia is progressive, which means the symptoms will get worse over time. How quickly dementia progresses depends entirely on the individual, each person will have their own, unique experience with dementia.

Dementia is characterised by a gradual deterioration in memory and in the person's ability to carry out everyday activities, make decisions, understand information and express themselves. Dementia may also affect a person’s mood and personality

Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia, accounting for 50-60% of all cases. About 40,000 individuals in Ireland have Alzheimer's disease and related dementia.
